PRACTICAL WORKSHOP

GOALS THAT SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR DOG (NOT STRESS YOU OUT):

SETTING GOALS THAT BUILD TRUST - NOT TENSION - IN THE RING

PRACTICAL WORKSHOP

12th January 2026 7pm GMT

COULD IT BE THAT YOUR GOALS STOOD IN THE WAY OF YOUR SUCCESS IN 2025?

Turn Self-Doubt into Self-Belief by Setting Goals that bring us Confidence and success

If your goals leave you feeling anxious, pressured, or deflated… the problem isn’t you. It’s the goals.

So many dog sport competitors set goals with the best of intentions — and end up feeling on edge before events, disappointed after decent runs, frustrated with themselves or their dogs, and quietly questioning whether they’re “good enough.”

Traditional goals ask us to chase outcomes we can’t fully control.
Scores. Placings. Titles.

They ignore nerves.
They ignore connection.
They ignore the reality of what pressure does to our bodies and our dogs.

And when things don’t go to plan, those goals leave us feeling embarrassed, self-critical, or flat — even when there were real moments worth celebrating.

There is another way.

Process-focused goals shift the emphasis from proving yourself to supporting yourself. They help you stay calmer, clearer, and more connected in the ring. They give you ways to win that don’t depend on the scoreboard — and confidence that actually carries forward instead of resetting every time.

Goals that build trust, not tension.
With your dog.
And with yourself.

If your goals keep leaving you deflated, it’s not because you’re failing — it’s because the goals are working against you.

Traditional goal-setting often leaves you feeling:

  • Anxious or on edge as events approach

  • Pressured to “perform” rather than connect

  • Disappointed even after a decent run

  • Frustrated with yourself or your dog

  • Self-critical and second-guessing your decisions

  • Flat, numb, or unmotivated after competitions

  • Embarrassed or exposed when things don’t go to plan

  • Like you’re always behind or not quite good enough

And it often asks you to:

  • Chase outcomes you can’t fully control (scores, placings, titles)

  • Tie your confidence to results instead of process

  • Override nerves rather than work with your nervous system

  • Ignore context — the dog, the day, the environment

  • Treat “success” as rare instead of repeatable

  • Judge yourself harshly when reality doesn’t match the plan

This process-focused approach helps you feel:

  • Calmer and more settled before you step into the ring

  • Clear about what actually matters on the day

  • More connected and responsive to your dog

  • Confident even when things aren’t perfect

  • Proud of how you showed up, not just what you scored

  • Able to learn without spiralling into blame

  • Motivated in a sustainable, grounded way

  • Like success is something you can build, not chase

And it helps you to:

  • Set goals you can control, even under pressure

  • Build trust with your dog, not tension

  • Create multiple ways to “win” that don’t depend on the scoreboard

  • Regulate your nervous system instead of fighting it

  • Carry confidence from one event to the next

I'm Kat Farrants

The Dog Sports Performance Coach. I started up my Mindset Mastery Membership after being askked in the dog sport fraternity to share my knowledge of mindset, performance and the tools that decades of yoga and mindfulness practice have given me when competing and training my dogs. It was clear to folks that there was something about the way I trained and competed which has given me the competitive advantage - across dog sports!

I've been a yoga practitioner for 30 years, and 11 years ago, I founded what was awarded by OM yoga the 'UK's favourite online yoga platform 2023 and 2024'.

I've trained dogs since I was a child. I've competed at the top level in confirmation showing, competitive obedience and IGP (Schuzhund) as well has having experience competing in agility and rally.

I'm sharing the tools, techniques and tips that took me from pre-beginners to Obedience Champion with one, special dog competing in the Crufts Obedience Championships, having mum and daughter Obedience Champions, and competing at National level in IGP and making history in IGP being the first UK Aussie to gain IGP3.

Gracie and I made history, worldwide, when we were the first ever Aussie to have competed at the FCI IGP World Championships! And she not only competed, but was the top dog of the GB team!

We have also qualified for the Crufts Obedience Championships 2026, the only female non-collie to have qualified. Yet again ;-).

I do what I do with non-traditional breeds, in non-traditional ways, showing that with the right mindset, anything is possible!

I'm both a dog sports trainer and a coach for Mindset Mastery for Dog Sports, coaching competitors from beginners to top level, to overcome nerves and to compete with confidence.

"I joined the Mental Mastery for Dog Sports Training because I realised that I was very nervous at Dog Shows. I hoped to learn techniques to help with my nerves so that I could perform better. The course made a huge difference. Kat is a wonderful coach, she has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is very empathetic."

"At first I was skeptical, but I felt everything shift, and realised how much I can improve my mental game and optimised my dog's training! I have learnt so much about myself, my dog, my training and I now have the start of a toolkit to train me and my dog. I also learnt how my thoughts can be too the detriment of my competing! Thank you, Kat."

Bea
From the first session I was better able to manage myself and my state of mind so that I was in a more optimistic and confident place. I hadn’t expected how much the course has helped me to connect with my dogs and be more empathic with them which has transformed our relationships both in and out of training.

What this course has actually done for me is huge!

"I was lucky enough to find this course to help with my mindset for dog sports.  I joined because I find that my stress at a trials really affects my dog.  While we are usually amazing and in flow at training, we are very inconsistent during a trial.  I never know what I’m going to get once I take his leash off.   I was hopeful that this course would help me control my nerves and therefore, be more calm and consistent for my dog.  What this course has actually done for me is huge!  I have really become aware of so many things that I can do to feel more in control of myself during competitions and feel less pressure and stress.  I now have many tools at my disposal to help me feel more prepared for many different situations, how to release stress and pressure, as well as how to prepare for the unexpected!  What I really cherished about the course was the sense of camaraderie and support I received not just from Kat, but also from the others in the course.  It was wonderful to know that we all have felt stress and anxiety during trials and to know that we weren’t alone.  I also loved the great suggestions and advice from others.  I highly recommend this course to anyone who competes with their dogs and wants to feel more in control of their emotions so they can have fun and experience joy in the trial ring!"
